Brooklyn Heights 4

The project involved the transformation of a two-unit carriage house into a single-family residence through an extensive renovation. This included the addition of a new basement beneath the existing structure through excavation and structural underpinning, a full gut renovation of the interior, and the creation of thoughtfully designed exterior spaces, including a landscaped rear yard and roof terrace. The historic facades were carefully preserved to maintain the building's architectural character.

Key design features include a new full-height steel-and-glass opening to the rear yard, a striking double-height stair hall with natural wood detailing, and a white oak-paneled ceiling with exposed beams in the main living areas. The first floor was updated with multi-colored stone tile flooring in the entry, mudroom, stair hall, and guest bathroom. The kitchen was custom designed with marble countertops, ceramic tiles, bronze mesh panels, and brass accents.

The second floor boasts three new skylights, including a ten-foot-long installation over the stairwell, enhancing natural light. A spiral staircase connects the rear yard to the roof terrace, which features custom cedar screening, stone pavers, planters, and outdoor furniture. The new basement was designed to include a family room, laundry room, and gym, providing additional functional living space. Landscape design by XS Space.
